Sikafloor-161 HC 2-Part Epoxy Primer & Binder 20kg
$160.00 USD
Sikafloor-161 HC 2-Part Epoxy Primer & Binder 20kg
A two-part, low-viscosity multipurpose filled epoxy resin for priming and levelling concrete and cementitious substrates. Its good penetration, excellent bond strength and short waiting times support preparation of floors for compatible Sikafloor systems.
Product Features
- Low viscosity with good substrate penetration.
- Excellent bond strength.
- Solvent-free and easy to apply.
- Short waiting times between compatible layers.
- Multipurpose use as primer, bonding bridge and binder for levelling mortars, repair mortars and screeds.
Specifications
- Brand: Sika
- Model: Sikafloor-161 HC
- Composition: Two-part epoxy resin
- Pack size: 20kg set, as identified in the existing listing's SEO description
- 20kg set components: 15.8kg part A and 4.2kg part B
- Mixing ratio A:B: 79:21 by weight
- Part A: Brownish-transparent liquid; part B: Transparent liquid
- Density: Approximately 1.6 kg/L for A, 1.0 kg/L for B and 1.4 kg/L mixed
- Solids: Approximately 100% by mass and volume
- Shelf life: 24 months from production in original unopened, undamaged sealed packaging
- Storage: Dry conditions between +18°C and +30°C
Application
- Priming concrete, cement screeds and epoxy mortars with low to medium absorbency.
- Primer and intermediate layer for Sikafloor-263 SL HC and Sikafloor-264 HC flooring systems.
- Binder for levelling mortars, mortar screeds and repair mortars.
- Bonding bridge for compatible flooring build-ups.
Concrete must have compressive strength of at least 25 N/mm² and pull-off strength of at least 1.5 N/mm². Substrate moisture must be below 4% by weight with no rising moisture. Where moisture exceeds 4%, consult the specified Sikafloor EpoCem temporary-moisture-barrier system.
How to Use
- Mechanically prepare sound, clean and dry concrete by abrasive blasting, planing, scarifying or grinding. Remove laitance, weak material and high spots, expose voids, and vacuum thoroughly. Repair defects and pretreat construction joints and static cracks with suitable specified materials.
- Confirm air and substrate temperatures of +10°C to +30°C, relative humidity no higher than 80%, and substrate and uncured floor at least 3°C above the dew point.
- Mix part A for approximately 30 seconds, add part B at 79:21 by weight, then mix for approximately 3 minutes at 300–400 rpm until uniform. Transfer to a clean container and remix, scraping the sides and bottom. Avoid excessive mixing.
- For levelling mortar or screed, gradually add the specified fillers or aggregates while mixing A and B, mix for a further 2 minutes, transfer and remix. Use a suitable forced-action mortar mixer, not a free-fall mixer.
- For priming, spread evenly with a short-pile roller or squeegee and back-roll in two perpendicular directions. Maintain a wet edge. If specified, broadcast quartz sand after 15–30 minutes, lightly at first then to excess, and vacuum loose sand after sufficient hardening.
- Apply levelling or scratch coats with a trowel or squeegee. Apply bonding bridges with a brush, fleece roller or squeegee and back-roll. Place resin screeds and patch mortars wet-on-wet onto still-tacky primer, then compact and finish.
- Protect from damp, condensation and direct water for at least 24 hours. Apply during falling temperatures to reduce pinholes. Close cured pinholes by light grinding and a suitable resin scratch coat before subsequent layers.
- Observe the appropriate overcoating window. Resin screed requires a seal coat before contact with water.
- Clean tools immediately with Thinner C; cured material requires mechanical removal.
What's in the Box
One 20kg Sikafloor-161 HC set comprising part A resin and part B hardener. Quartz sand, fillers, application tools and subsequent coating products are not listed as included.
Technical Information
- Shore D hardness: Approximately 76 after 7 days at +23°C.
- Resin compressive strength: Approximately 60 N/mm² after 28 days at +23°C.
- Resin flexural strength: Approximately 30 N/mm² after 28 days at +23°C.
- Tensile adhesion: Greater than 1.5 N/mm² with concrete failure, ISO 4624.
- Pot life: Approximately 50 minutes at +10°C, 25 minutes at +20°C and 15 minutes at +30°C.
- Priming consumption: 0.35–0.55 kg/m². Bonding bridge: 0.3–0.5 kg/m².
- Levelling or scratch mortar: 1 part resin to 0.5 parts 0.1–0.3mm quartz sand by weight; approximately 1.7 kg/m²/mm.
- Resin screed or repair mortar at 15–20mm: 1 part resin to 8 parts quartz sand by weight; approximately 2.2 kg/m²/mm.
- Consumption is theoretical and excludes substrate variations and wastage. Establish actual requirements with a test area.
- Before solvent-free coatings: at +10°C wait 24 hours–4 days; at +20°C, 12 hours–2 days; at +30°C, 8–24 hours.
- Before solvent-containing coatings: at +10°C wait 36 hours–6 days; at +20°C, 24 hours–4 days; at +30°C, 16 hours–2 days.
- Foot/light traffic/full cure: approximately 24 hours/6 days/10 days at +10°C; 12 hours/4 days/7 days at +20°C; 8 hours/2 days/5 days at +30°C. Actual times depend on site conditions.
- Short-term heat exposure: up to +60°C for a maximum of 7 days; occasional moist or wet heat exposure is listed. Avoid simultaneous chemical or mechanical strain at elevated temperatures.
- Resistant to many chemicals; obtain the detailed resistance table for the intended exposure.
- The web reference lists topcoat thickness of 70–140 microns and standalone coating thickness of 140–275 microns. Confirm the appropriate system specification before treating this primer as a standalone finish.
