An APP-modified bituminous roof waterproofing membrane reinforced with non-woven polyester fabric. Its decorative mineral-granule top surface allows permanent UV exposure, while the polyethylene burn-off film underneath enables fully bonded torch application.

Application

• Waterproofing balconies and terraces.
• Flat or sloping roofs with gradients up to 15%.
• Exposed cap sheet in a multilayer waterproofing system.
• Suitable torching substrates include concrete, perlite screeds, smooth bituminous membranes, brick masonry and cementitious screeds. Check compatibility before installation over coatings.

The supporting structure must carry the complete new and existing roof build-up. Design the complete system for wind uplift; the adhesion strength between the membrane and substrate limits the adhered assembly's wind-uplift resistance. Torch application involves an open flame and requires appropriate professional installation and fire precautions.

How to Use

1. Prepare a uniform, firm, smooth, clean and dry substrate. Remove sharp protrusions, burrs, grease, laitance, oil, dust and loose particles.
2. Unroll and align the membrane, then re-roll before application. Lay adjacent membranes parallel and stagger overlaps relative to any underlying bituminous membrane.
3. Provide side overlaps of at least 100mm and end overlaps of at least 150mm. At end overlaps, cut off a corner measuring 100mm per side at 45°.
4. Heat the substrate and underside backing film with a gas burner. When the film begins to melt, roll the membrane forward and press firmly to bond it. Keep the flame moving and avoid overheating.
5. Weld overlaps carefully until a bead of melted bitumen approximately 10mm wide is visible along the overlap line. Ensure bonding along the full length of side and end overlaps. Lift and retorch unbonded areas as needed.
6. Cut and form corners, upstands, vent pipes, drains and support-metalwork details according to the relevant Sika method statement.
7. Use flat-profile footwear to prevent punctures. Handle carefully when unrolling in cold conditions; hot conditions may make the membrane tacky and restrict laying.

What's in the Box

One roll of Sika SikaShield P24 MG 4.5 kg/m², nominally 1m × 10m. Net installed coverage is less than 10m² after overlaps, cuts and detailing. Application equipment and other system components are not listed as included.

Technical Information

• Polyester reinforcement melts at +260°C; damage from overheating makes the membrane unusable.
• Storage: original unopened, undamaged packaging in dry conditions between +5°C and +35°C. Store rolls upright. Do not stack roll pallets on each other or beneath pallets of other materials during storage or transport.
