A flexible thermoplastic PVC waterbar designed to stop water migration through construction joints in concrete structures. Its multi-rib V-profile is embedded in the concrete, with sealing beginning once the concrete has hardened. Site-welded connections help form a continuous waterstop along the joint.

Application

• Concrete construction joints in water reservoirs and sewage treatment plants.

Select the waterbar profile for the project joint design and expected movement. The V-profile should not be treated as a universal solution for movement joints.

How to Use

1. Fit the V-profile into split formwork or shuttering so it is cast centrally into the stop-end.
2. Use the pre-punched outer-flange eyelets and tie wires to secure the waterbar to steel reinforcement, preventing displacement during concreting.
3. During the first concrete pour, ensure the cast-in portion is well embedded. Vibrate carefully to avoid honeycombing. Use well-graded aggregate and concrete that is neither too plastic nor too stiff.
4. Maintain equal concrete pressure on both sides of the waterbar during placement to prevent displacement or folded edges.
5. Remove formwork carefully near the waterbar. Inspect the stop-end for honeycombing, repair as necessary, and remove hardened concrete remnants from the exposed waterbar before the second pour.
6. Complete the second pour with the same care so both sides of the waterbar are properly embedded.
7. For site welding, heat both cut ends simultaneously against the faces of a Sika electric welding knife until an even molten PVC bead forms. Withdraw the knife, immediately press the ends together, and hold rigid until cool and solid.
8. Inspect welded joints for gaps and imperfections. Redo defective welds; irregular cut edges, insufficient heat and dust can cause failures.
