Application Steps

  • Substrate Preparation: Surface must be sound, clean, dry, and free from dirt, oil, grease, old sealants, and poorly bonded coatings. Remove all dust and loose material. SikaSeal®-128 adheres without primers or activators on most substrates.
  • Priming – Non-Porous Substrates (for optimum adhesion): Aluminium, anodised aluminium, stainless steel, PVC, galvanised steel, powder-coated metals, glazed tiles: lightly abrade, clean, and pre-treat with Sika® Aktivator-205. Wait >15 min (<6 hours). Other metals (brass, titanium-zinc): apply Sika® Aktivator-205, wait >15 min, then prime with Sika® Primer-3 N. Wait >30 min (<8 hours). PVC: apply Sika® Primer-215, wait >30 min (<8 hours). Glass: clean with Isopropanol.
  • Priming – Porous Substrates: Prime with Sika® Primer-3 N by brush. Wait >30 min (<8 hours) before sealing.
  • Masking: Apply masking tape where neat joint lines are required. Remove within the skinning time after finishing.
  • Joint Backing: Insert a suitable backing rod to the required depth.
  • Application: SikaSeal®-128 is ready to use. Prepare the cartridge or foil pack, insert into the sealant gun, and fit the nozzle. Extrude into the joint ensuring full contact with joint sides. Avoid air entrapment.
  • Finishing: Immediately tool the sealant firmly against the joint sides for adequate adhesion and a smooth finish. Use a compatible tooling agent (water is suitable). Do not use solvent-based tooling products.
  • Cleaning: Clean tools immediately with Sika® Remover-208. Hardened material can only be removed mechanically. For skin cleaning, use Sika® Cleaning Wipes-100.
