Application Steps

  • Substrate Preparation: Surface must be sound, clean, dry, and free from dirt, oil, grease, cement laitance, sealant residues, and poorly bonded coatings. Use wire brushing, grinding, or grit blasting to remove weak material. Repair damaged joint edges with suitable Sika repair products.
  • Priming – Non-Porous Substrates: Aluminium, stainless steel, galvanised steel, glazed tiles: lightly abrade, clean, then apply Sika® Aktivator-205 with a clean cloth. Other metals (copper, brass, titanium-zinc): abrade, clean, apply Sika® Aktivator-205, wait flash-off time, then prime with Sika® Primer-3 N. PVC: prime with Sika® Primer-215.
  • Priming – Porous Substrates: Concrete, aerated concrete, cement renders, bricks: prime with Sika® Primer-3 N or Sika® Primer-115. Concrete 2–3 days old or matt wet: use Sika® Primer-115.
  • Application: Apply masking tape if required. Insert backing rod to required depth. Prime joint surfaces. Open foil pack, fit nozzle, cut to desired bead size, and insert into application gun. Apply sealant into joint avoiding air entrapment. Tool firmly against joint sides immediately using Sika® Tooling Agent N. Remove masking tape within skin formation time.
  • Overpainting: Allow full cure before overpainting. Test paint compatibility per ISO/TR 20436:2017 before full application.
  • Do NOT use on: Natural stone (granite, marble, limestone), bitumen, natural rubber, EPDM rubber, or joints in swimming pools with chlorine treatment.
