SikaShield® P24 S 4mm
An APP modified bituminous waterproofing membrane reinforced with non-woven polyester fabric. The sand top surface ensures excellent bond for overlying layers. Torch-applied via burn-off film on the underside for a fully bonded installation. Flexible at 0°C and suitable as a base sheet in multi-layer systems under protective layers, tiles, or ballast.

Application Steps
- Substrate Preparation: Surface must be uniform, firm, smooth, and free from sharp protrusions, grease, laitance, oil, dust, and loose particles. Must be clean and dry.
- Priming: Apply the appropriate Sika® primer at the required consumption onto the prepared dry surface. Allow the primer to dry completely before membrane installation. Contact Sika Technical Service for primer selection guidance.
- Alignment: Unroll the membrane and align it. Re-roll before application. Lay membranes parallel to avoid coinciding joints. When applying over another bituminous membrane, straddle the overlaps of the previous layer.
- Torching: Heat the substrate and the burn-off film on the underside of the membrane with a gas burner. When the backing film starts to melt, roll the membrane forward and press firmly against the substrate. Keep the flame moving to avoid overheating (polyester reinforcement melts at +260°C). A bead of melted bitumen must be visible along the full length of all overlaps.
- Overlaps: Overlap sides by min. 100 mm and ends by min. 150 mm. At end overlaps, cut a 100×100 mm corner at 45°. Weld overlaps until a 10 mm trickle of melted mixture is visible along the overlap line.
- Detailing: Use a sharp knife to cut around internal/external corners, upstands, vent pipes, drains, and support metalwork. Refer to the relevant method statement for detailing guidance.
- Suitable Substrates for Torching: Concrete, perlite screed, bituminous membranes with smooth surface, compatible coatings, brick masonry, cementitious screeds.
- Footwear: Use flat-profile footwear only – spikes or sharp protrusions may puncture the membrane.
Maintenance
- Check the functionality of auxiliary works, flashings, drainage outlets, and overflow pipes regularly.
- Remove leaves, moss, and vegetation that could cause ponding and overload the drainage system.
- Arrange periodic inspections of the membrane and detailing to maintain waterproofing performance throughout its lifespan.
