Sika Waterbar® V VN
A flexible thermoplastic PVC waterstop designed to stop water migration through construction joints in concrete structures. The multi-rib V-profile is cast centrally into stop-ends and sealing begins as soon as the concrete hardens. Pre-punched eyelets allow easy fixing to reinforcement. Can be site-welded using a Sika electric welding knife.

Application
Application Steps
- Fixing to Formwork: Fit the V-profile Sika Waterbar® V VN into the split formwork or shuttering for casting centrally into the stop-ends. Used for construction and movement joints where nominal movement is anticipated.
- Fixing to Reinforcement: Use pre-punched eyelets in the outer flanges to fix the waterbar to steel reinforcement with tie wires, ensuring it is not displaced during concreting.
- Placing Concrete – First Stage: Both sides must be well embedded in concrete. Vibrate carefully to avoid honeycombing. Use well-graded aggregate with concrete that is neither too plastic nor too stiff. Apply equal concrete pressure on both sides to prevent the ends from folding up.
- Placing Concrete – Second Stage: Remove formwork carefully near the waterbar. Check the stop-end thoroughly for honeycombing and repair if necessary. Clean all hardened concrete remnants from the first stage before proceeding as per the first stage.
- Site Welding: Use a Sika electric welding knife. Heat both ends simultaneously on the faces of the welding knife until an even molten bead of PVC appears. Withdraw the knife and immediately push the sections together. Hold rigid until the PVC cools and solidifies. Check for gaps or imperfect joints and re-weld if necessary.
